Pilates is a total body and mind conditioning programme. It works by improving your body awareness; teaching you to be in complete control of your body as you move from a stable core (abdomnials, pelvic floor, diaphragm and back muscles).
This challenges your balance, co-ordination and joint stability and leads to a protected spine and improved movement quality in your everyday life.
As your strength and muscle endurance increases you will benefit from improved core stability, posture and flexibility as well as a flatter stomach, toned arms, legs and bum developing longer leaner muscles.
Pilates is recommended by medical practitioners, is used as a method of rehabilitation and many athletes and dancers incorporate it within their fitness regime to keep their body fit, improve their movement quality and enhance their performance. Pilates importantly though, is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
I am proud to be a member of the Body Control Pilates association. Body Control were the first pilates training provider in the world to introduce a curriculum based teacher training programme. They were also involved in the implementation of a UK national standard for pilates and were the first to have their course approved.
Body Control provides the building blocks for the average body to achieve all of the benefits of pilates while progressing as far as possible to the full classical mat exercises. Many exercises are unique to Body Control and it allows you to gain a real understanding of the objectives of the exercises as Joseph Pilates intended. This together with Body Controls teacher training programme, strict code of ethics and continuing professional development is what sets Body Control apart.
